Well, a couple weeks into our lifestyle change, my wife and I discovered a way to still have the taste of a BLT without the bacon. It’s called Marinated Tempeh Smoky Maple Bacon. What a replacement it is. The tempeh is about as close as you can get to the taste of bacon, but without the meat. You can find it in the produce section of your grocery store. It’s made by a company called Turtle Island Foods.
Not only is it delicious, but pretty healthy for you as well. Tempeh, which is made with organic soybeans, is high in protein, calcium and iron, among other things. Meanwhile tomatoes have lots of vitamin C and reduces your risk of heart disease.
You don’t use regular mayonnaise on this sandwich, you use a brand with no eggs. Our family likes Vegenaise. Normally you can find Vegenaise near the tempeh in the produce section.
I have to be honest, when it comes to vegan meals, it’s pretty tough to find an easier meal to prepare. It really takes less than 10 minutes. Move over BLT, it’s time to enjoy a TLT and that vegan thing.
1 package of Marinated Tempeh Smoky Maple Bacon
1 loaf of bread with no dairy in it
Vegan mayonnaise (I like to use Vegenaise)
Cook the marinated tempeh on the stove at medium heat for a few minutes. Toast the bread, cut up the tomato and shred some lettuce. Put some Vegenaise on your bread and add the tempeh, tomato and lettuce and serve.
